Is franchise AI just hype?
Partly. The capabilities are real and measurable — 15 of 50 tracked systems score 70 or above on genuine deployments. The hype is in the statistics attached to them, most of which are vendor-produced and unverifiable.
Both things are true at once, and separating them is the whole job.
What is real
Automated drive-thru ordering, computer-vision quality checks, demand forecasting and revenue management are shipping, deployed and measurable. We score them precisely because they can be verified.
What is hype
The percentages. Onboarding cut by 40%, royalty collection at 95%, labour down by a third — these circulate widely and almost never come with a sample, baseline or method.
The pattern is consistent: the capability is real, the statistic about it is invented. Treating them as one claim is how buyers get misled.
How to tell them apart
Ask whether the claim describes a thing that exists or a number that quantifies it. Existence claims are checkable. Quantified claims need a method, and most do not have one.
Our position
We publish an AI adoption score and refuse to publish a profitability figure, because one is measurable from observable deployments and the other is not. That distinction is the honest line.
